Q3 2024 Report

In Q3 2024, claims frequency for repairable collision-damaged battery electric vehicles (BEVs) rose to 3.01% in the U.S. and 3.97% in Canada, an increase of 47% and 26% respectively year over year (YOY). While BEV sales have slowed, they still represent 8% of new vehicle sales in the U.S. (up 11.3% YOY) and 9.49% in Canada (up 18.47% YOY).

Claims frequency for repairable, collision-damaged battery electric vehicles (BEVs) rose to 2.5% in the U.S. and 3.94% in Canada in Q2 2024鈥攁 year-over-year increase of 45% and 39% respectively. According to the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, EVs represented 9.3% of new U.S. light-duty vehicle sales in Q1 2024, down from 10.2% in Q4 2023. Similarly, in Canada BEV sales fell to 9.2% last quarter, down from 10% in Q4 2023.

In Q1 2024, electric vehicle (EV) repairable claims frequency rose to 2.26% in the United States and 3.41% in Canada, an increase of approximately 40% and 38% respectively over Q1 2023. Tesla price reductions late last year spurred precipitous price drops throughout the EV segment. As a result, price parity between EVs and vehicles with an internal combustion engine (ICE) may be coming faster than previously predicted.

2023 ended with electric vehicle (EV) repairable claims frequency at 1.97% in the United States and 2.86% in Canada. That represents an increase of more than 40% in both regions over the previous year. When compared to 2020, the frequency of claims for repairable EVs has more than tripled.

Electric vehicle (EV) repairable claims frequency rose to 1.86% in the US and 3.14% in Canada in Q3 2023鈥攗p a modest 0.37% and 0.50% respectively from Q2. While the introduction of new electrified models could eventually impact Tesla鈥檚 market dominance, the world鈥檚 largest EV manufacturer still accounted for over 70% of the EVs repaired in North American collision facilities last quarter.

Electric vehicle (EV) repairable claims frequency rose to 1.49% in the US and 2.64% in Canada in Q2 2023, which is an increase of 0.36% and 0.23% respectively over Q1. Tesla, the largest EV manufacturer in the world, saw its U.S. market share of repairable vehicles fall to 74.57% of all EVs repaired.

While Tesla remains the dominant player, the company鈥檚 U.S. market share of repairable vehicles fell in Q1 2023 to 75.8% of all EVs repaired, down from 76.78% in Q4 2022.

In Q4 2022, electric vehicle (EV) repairable claims frequency rose to 1.1% in the U.S. and 2.26% in Canada. Tesla continues to dominate EV market share in both countries with 76.78% in the US and 70.21% in Canada. The Ford Mustang Mach-E moved up to fourth position in U.S. EV frequency, displacing the Tesla Model X.
